An Introduction to the UIDAI(Unique Identification Authority of India)
The exceptional Identification project was launched by the Planning Commission so as to make sure that every resident of India would receive a special form of Unique Identification Authority and Aadhar Card Status. The project was introduced to provide better welfare services to the residents of the nation and to act as an overseeing entity to monitor a vast range of government schemes and applications.
Conceptualisation of those UIDAI
The Unique identification concept first saw the light of day in 2006 after the Department of Information Technology granted consent for the project. In its first phase, it was christened the `’Particular ID for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families” and was to be executed over the whole period of a single year by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). Following the acceptance, a committee was formed in July 2006 to recommend processes required for the maintenance of information gathered in the primary database of the BPL project.
This committee then received a report filed by M/S Wipro Ltd, which outlined the way the UIDAI will be connected with the database of electorates. The Committee also took into consideration that a UIDAI Authority would have to be installed under the Planning Commission’s scope with a view to developing a singular identity for its jurisdiction as well as achieving the goals outlined in the XI Plan. A proposal was then handed over to the Planning commission on 30th August 2006 for approval.
During this time, the creation of the National Population Register as well as the rolling from multi-faceted National Identity Cards to all Indian citizens was being completed from the Registrar General of India.A decision was subsequently taken, following the Prime Minister’s approval, to amalgamate both the National Population Register as well as the Unique Identification Number endeavor under an EGoM.
This team, which was formed on 4th December 2006, was entrusted with choosing a final decision after overseeing the processes involved in addition to Identifying certain important things that eventually led to the quick and effective realization of the project.
