Narendra Modi Govt says No LPG Subsidy Without Aadhar Accounts
The Centre has asked oil marketing firms (OMCs) not to transfer LPG subsidy to the bank account of eligible families unless their accounts are seeded with the unique identification number, Aadhar.
The action, which demonstrates to the government’s plan intent to make Aadhar compulsory for receipt of various sops, comes almost a year after the Supreme Court’s interim order, allowing the use of Aadhar for public distribution system (PDS) and LPG subsidy deliveries
“From 1.7.2016, subsidy will just be transferred to the eligible client having Aadhar seeding (sic); subsidy for the (financial institution transfer compliant) clients that have not seeded Aadhar will be continued hold till 30.9.2016 after which the parked subsidy will certainly lapse.
And also the client would certainly not be eligible for subsidy of the refills consumed after 1.10.2016 till he sends Aadhar to his/her LPG supplier,” said a note sent by the petroleum ministry to OMCs on June 30.
Currently, there are more than 17 crore residential food preparation gas consumers. Of this, 15.8 crores have been added to PAHAL (direct advantage transfer for LPG subsidy) system.
Nearly, 2 crore cooking gas consumers have actually not seeded their Aadhar number with the bank account.
The subsidy on a 14.2-kg residential refill dropped to R63.91 beginning August 1 against R116.34 in the previous month.
The Union Budget has provided R26,947 crore for fuel subsidy in the present monetary, which consists of Rs. 19, 803 crore for LPG as well as R7,144 crore for kerosene.
